New to Cotlew St Osteopathy is the Skully Care App.
A photographic application that can easily take measurements of your infant’s skull to diagnose plagiocephaly or brachycephaly (flat head syndrome) and take accurate measurements. These measurements of the skull can give enough information so a Cranial Vault Asymmetry Index (CVAI) and a Cranial Index (CI) can be calculated. These are the numbers practitioners need to help monitor progress.
It is designed with high reliability and validity which is important for accuracy (research papers are on their website www.skullycare.com). The application measures with one photo (no identifying features of the child is captured), results are calculated in 5 minutes, there are automatic progress reports and we can share treatments with parents.
A simple and welcome tool that makes monitoring plagiocephaly a lot easier in clinic.
At Cotlew St Osteopathy, Victoria may utilise this tool as a general screen as part of her musculoskeletal assessment for children under the age of 1. If the app flags potential concern, then progress can be monitored with repeat photography on follow up consultations.
