Welcome To Cotlew St. Osteopathy

The child centered family clinic

Cotlew St. Osteopathy has been created as a child centered family clinic. When you walk in there are two reception areas, one especially dedicated to new mothers to be able to take their time to feed and change their babies pre and post treatment.

This area is filled with an array of toys and books for children and siblings to quietly play. The clinic is light filled and warm. There is parking directly in front and it is pram friendly. The location of the clinic is within the Gold Coast Office Park, a little medical hub. All Osteopathic appointments with Victoria are 40 minutes, which includes a detailed examination and Osteopathic treatment.

At Cotlew St. Osteopathy you can access Osteopathic sessions with a referral from your GP under the Chronic Diseases Management plan (or EPC) for a partial Medicare rebate. You can also book in as a private patient (with no referral) and be eligible for private health rebates.

How Osteopathy Can Help

Osteopathy is a healthcare practice that is hands on. We use movement of the body focusing on joints, muscles, nerves, lymphatics and circulation to help improve the underlying function of the area. When mobility and function improve, quite often there is a reduction in inflammation and pain.

We can start to feel better. It’s a different way of addressing discomfort and pain without the use of drugs. Australian Osteopaths are university trained, government registered, allied health professionals.

Conditions We Treat

Newborns, Infants & Children

Newborns experience various birth scenarios, which can shape their initial weeks. Unsettled behaviour, excessive crying, head shape issues, movement preference, feeding and sleeping difficulties may be signs of unresolved birth trauma. Osteopathy can address these concerns by encouraging musculoskeletal system function and healthier behaviour.

As babies grow reflexes become conscious movements. Missed milestones or uncoordinated movements might indicate poorly integrated reflexes. Victoria considers rhythmic movement training as part of her treatment plans for these children.

The main concerns parents have for their newborn or child and book an appointment with Cotlew St. Osteopathy is for:

  • Torticollis
  • Flat head syndrome (plagiocephaly & brachycephaly)
  • Colic & Unsettled Baby
  • Delayed Crawling & Walking
  • Growing Pains
  • Feeding Difficulties
  • Constipation
  • Sleeping Difficulties
  • Childhood Falls
  • Developmental Delays

Conditions We Treat

Teens

Teenage bodies undergo periods of rapid growth and hormonal changes, usually combined with an increase in physical activity. It’s a time when poor posture, sporting injuries, scoliosis and even concussion rates increase.

Osteopathic techniques, combined with posture retraining and exercises can go a long way to managing pain and alleviating discomfort for these conditions.

Understanding the severity and complexity of concussion injuries and the long-term effects are still yet to be fully understood. Osteopathy is in a unique position of being able to improve mobility, circulation and lymphatic drainage to the head and neck, as a treatment approach to helping some headaches and post-concussion symptoms.

Here are some of the main conditions we treat in the older child in clinic:

  • Childhood Headaches / Migraines
  • Sporting Injuries
  • Concussion
  • Osgood Schlatter
  • Scoliosis
  • Hip Pain
  • Jaw Pain / TMJ Pain
  • Shoulder & Neck Pain
  • Poor Posture

Conditions We Treat

Pregnancy / Post Partum

A woman’s body undergoes the most extraordinary and possibly the largest transformation and change during the 9 months of pregnancy.

During this time, it can be common to experience lower back or pelvic pains. Mostly this is due to the different ways that weight is carried and how the body accommodates changes in posture. Osteopathy has techniques that can help improve posture, improve breathing and pelvic mechanics, and decrease discomfort and pain. This helps to provide a more enjoyable experience during this wonderous time.

Osteopathy can also help with post-partum recovery. There may be several challenges in this 4th trimester including hormonal changes affecting ligaments, dysfunction and pain caused by delivery, and feeding or breastfeeding difficulties. Osteopathy can not only help ease discomfort but also promote better blood flow and promote lymphatic drainage.

Some of the reasons why women may present to Cotlew St. Osteopathy include:

  • Pelvic Pain
  • Sciatica
  • Headaches & Neck Strain
  • Lower Back Pain
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Optimal Fetal Positioning
  • Breastfeeding Pain
